Welcome Ramadhaan!

Assalam-oAlaikum! (may the peace, mercy and blessings of Allah be upon all of you!)

Ramadhaan of the 1428 Hijri… it is here! Alhamdolillah! Thank Allah for letting us witness such a blessed month! Let us welcome this Ramadhaan with a sense of gratitude and humility. Let us utilize all this valuable time to the best. Offer your daily prayers, give Zakat (obligatory charity) and Sadaqah! Smile, smile and smile! The Prophet Muhammad (may the peace and prayers of Allah be upon on him) has stated that even greeting people with a smile is charity.

Further, be extra kind to your parents, relatives, and friends and even to complete strangers! Share your sehri (morning meal eaten before Fajr prayer) and Iftari (evening meal eaten after sunset, time of Maghrib prayer) Alongside the prayers, zakat and good treatment of all and kindred, do not forget the real purpose of fasting. The object is not to devour as many sumptuous samosas as we can humanly possible. The object is not to try out all the tempting Iftari and Sehri deals that the restaurants have to offer or to take advantage of the discounts that the shopping centers are advertising about. The object of fasting (As-Saum) is simply that one attain ‘Taqwa’ (self-restrain) as the Holy Quran says:
“O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you become Al-Muttaqun (the pious).”
Ramadhan is a month of self-programming in which we should try to shed off all our bad habits and try to cultivate good ones. Let us make a few resolutions (serious ones!) and follow them sincerely and whole-heartedly till after the mohth of Ramadhaan. May you all be succesful in that endeavour! Assalam-oAlaikum!
